Fire at Kansas home damages two adjacent houses

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that damaged three homes on Monday night in Topeka.

Just after 11:30 p.m., crews responded to report of a house fire 406 SW Clay Street in Topeka, according to spokesperson Rosie Nichols

First responders found heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story home.  There were no residents home and no injuries reported.

The fire originated on the second floor of the home. Heat from the fire caused an estimated $10,000 in structural damages to a neighboring house and approximately $4,000 to a second neighboring house.

The total estimated loss at the home where the fire originated was approximately $18,500, including approximately $4,500 in structural damages.

Working smoke detectors were not located in the house where the fire originated.
