GREENWOOD COUNTY –Authorities investigating a weekend drowning have identified the victim as 23-year-old Alexzander Martin of Emporia, according to the Greenwood County Sheriff.
Just after 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 911 call to the sheriff's office reported someone was yelling for help at the Madison City Lake. The caller reported that the person had gone underwater and did not resurfaced. Emergency crews responded within minutes. The rescue quickly transitioned into a search effort.
Just before 11 p.m., Martin's body was recovered. The circumstances surrounding his drowning are under investigation.
The Madison Fire Department, Emporia Fire Department, Eureka Fire Department, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with rescue and recovery efforts.
