Police: Kan. woman on walk swept away in flash flooding

JOHNSON COUNTY —First responders found the body of a missing woman in a Johnson County creek on Monday.

Just after 9:30a.m. Monday, police responded to report of a missing person in the area of W 155th Terrace and Nall Avenue in Overland Park, according to Overland Park Police officer John Lacy.  A family member reported the missing person identified as 62-year-old Anupama Vaidya of Overland Park  frequently walked a nearby trail west of Nall Avenue.

Officers went to the trail and found Mrs. Vaidya in a nearby creek.  Due to the heavy rain, the creek was overflowing above the banks at the time the police were notified of the missing person.  Overland Park  Department Fire Rescue assisted in recovery of the body. The incident remains under investigation.
