HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs earned a doubleheader sweep of the Norton Bluejays in a key Mid-Continent League matchup Friday night at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.

It took double overtime but the TMP Lady Monarchs (15-3, 9-1 MCL) were able to hold off the Norton Lady Jays (13-5, 6-2 MCL) Friday 52-47.

TMP got out to a quick 9-2 start and led 13-7 as Megan Hamel scored five of her team-high 14 points in the first quarter.
The Monarchs built their largest lead of the game at 11 early in the second quarter at 18-7. Norton answered with a 9-3 run to end the first half cutting TMP’s lead to 21-16.
Norton trimmed the lead to two to open the third quarter and even tied the game briefly at 23. TMP quickly built the lead back to five before Norton made it 30-29 through three quarters.
Norton took their first lead of the game just less than a minute into the fourth quarter. The two teams traded the lead back and forth throughout the entire fourth quarter with neither team able to lead by more than two points.
Hamel made a pair free throws in the final minutes tying the game at 42 at the end of regulation forcing overtime.
In the first overtime each team had a two-point lead but neither team was able to secure the win and the game was tied at 47 at the end of the first overtime.
TMP outscored Norton 5-0 in double overtime on their way to the 52-47 win.
Game highlights
Hamel led three in double figures with a game-high 14 points. Emilee Lane and Sophia Balthazor each added 13 points for TMP.
Boys: TMP 69, Norton 54
The TMP Monarchs rallied from an early five-point deficit on their way to a 69-54 win over Norton.

The Norton Bluejays took advantage of a rough start for TMP to build an early 9-4 lead only to see Jackson Schulte score 11 straight as TMP took a 15-11 lead. The Monarchs built a seven-point first quarter lead on a Bryce Seib at 20-13. TMP lead 20-15 at the end of the first quarter.
The Monarchs opened the second quarter with a 9-3 run putting TMP up 29-18. Up 29-23 Seib sparked a 7-0 run to end the first half as TMP took a 36-23 lead into the halftime break.
TMP outscored Norton by 10 to start the third quarter as they built their largest lead of the game at 23 at 55-32.
The Monarchs led 59-37 through three quarters and went on to the 69-54 win.
Game highlights
Jackson Schulte scored a game-high 18 points for TMP. Dylan Werth and Gavin Unrein added 10 points.
The Monarchs play at Southeast of Saline on Saturday.
