WASHINGTON (AP) —On Friday, President Trump announced that he’s creating a task force to prepare for the World Cup, which will be held in North America next year.

Soccer’s biggest tournament will have games spread across the United States, Canada and Mexico over the course of a month. Kansas City is among the host cities. The event is expected to draw millions of tourists to the continent from around the world.

Trump met Friday with officials from FIFA, the international soccer governing body.

On his social media account, Kansas U.S. Senator Jerry Moran praised Trump, " Great news! President Trump announced the establishment of a White House Task Force for the FIFA World Cup 2026."

Last year, Moran and Senator Any Klobuchar urged the Administration to set up a federal task force to help ensure the safe execution of the World Cup in cities across the country including Kansas CIty. "This is an important step as the U.S. prepares to host one of the world’s largest sporting events."
