Police ID Kansas woman who drowned in private lake

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Authorities investigating a drowning have identified the victim as 35-year-old Aubrey Mayo of Wichita, according to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses.

Just before 10p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a check welfare call in the 3600 block of S. Broadway in Wichita, according to Moses. First responders learned that Mayo was swimming in a private lake and friends lost sight of her. 

Wichita and Sedgwick County Fire and Rescue responded, searched the lake later locating Mayo who was deceased in the lake.

The Sedgwick County Coroner will determine her cause of death. At this time, the death is not believed to be the result of criminal activity, according to Moses.
