Woman seriously burned in Kansas apartment fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY–One person was injured in a fire Thursday in Topeka.

Just after noon, crews responded to a fire at Shorey Villa Apartments, 2200 NW Polk Street, according to Fire Department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

Firefighters found smoke coming from one of the apartments and began attacking the fire.  Fire crews searching the residence found a woman with serious injuries.

The fire was extinguished and no additional injuries were reported.  

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental; related to flammable materials being too close to an open flame.  The victim's injuries were non-life-threatening.  Authorities released no additional details.
