Congressman responds after tragic incident at Kansas hospital ER

SALINA —Law enforcement are investigating a shooting that occurred early Thursday at the hospital in Salina.

Just after 7a.m. Thursday, police responded to Salina Regional Health Center Emergency Room where a man had allegedly shot himself, according to Salina Police Captain James Felldman.

Investigators determined an 87-year-old man who is from Salina walked into the ER and made contact with ER staff. After getting checked in, the man produced a handgun and shot himself while in the waiting room.

There were no other subjects in the waiting area. Immediate life saving measures were performed however the man was pronounced deceased just after 8:00 a.m.

On social media, Kansas First District Congressman Tracey Mann issued a statement on the tragedy.  "I am grateful that no innocent bystanders were harmed or injured during this morning’s tragedy. Audrey and I are covering those impacted in prayer alongside the Salina community. Thank you to the staff and law enforcement officials who managed the situation. Please join us in praying."
