
SEDGWICK COUNTY — A man accused in a fatal hit-and-run made his first court appearane this week.
Blaine L. Hughes, 21, Wichita, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
Just after 9 p.m. September 17, police were dispatched to the scene of a reported hit-and-run at the intersection of Murdock and Broadway in Wichita, according to a media release. First responders found 57-year-old Daniel Forshey lying in the roadway. Sedgwick County EMS arrived shortly after and pronounced Forshey dead at 9:11 p.m.
The Wichita Police Accident Follow-Up Unit interviewed witnesses and obtained video footage of the suspect vehicle. Initial investigations indicate that Forshey was riding his bicycle eastbound on Murdock when he was struck by a white 2006 Dodge Ram 1500.
After hitting Forshey, the suspect, later identified in the county booking report as Hughes drove into a Jump Start parking lot before fleeing southbound on Topeka.
In the early morning hours of September 18, patrol officers from the east bureau located the Hughes' truck and took him into custody without incident.
Hughes remains jailed on a $100,000 bond.
