SUMNER COUNTY —Two people died in an accident that occurred early Thursday morning in Sumner County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2028 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Michael Keefer, 63, Rose Hill, was southbound on the Kansas Turnpike at the Mulvane exit.
The Jeep struck a 2020 Chevy Express van and trailer driven by Tiburcio Gonzalez, 55, Circle Pines, Minnesota, that was overturned in the southbound lanes
Ernestina Eumana-Alvarez, 58 and a boy identified as Christian Gutierrez, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, died. The KHP could not verify the child's age.
EMS transported Gonzalez, five other adults and a 1-year-old boy in the van to area hospitals. Keefer and two passengers in the Jeep had minor injuries. The boy who died was not in a child safety seat, according to the KHP.
Despite the report of a cattle truck involved, according to the Mulvane Fire and Rescue, the KHP did include the vehicle in the crash report.

SUMNER COUNTY — The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that occurred early Thursday in Sumner County.
According to Mulvane Fire and Rescue, the multiple vehicle accident including a semi hauling cattle on the Kansas Turnpike closed southbound traffic at the Mulvane exit. Two people were pinned in vehicles and 6 people were transported to local area hospitals.
A total of 12 people were treated for injuries. Two refused transport, according to Mulvane Fire and Rescue.
