DOUGLAS COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 10:30p.m. Friday in Douglas County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Chevy Tahoe drive by a Eliseo J. Munoz, 23, Lawrence was westbound on U.S. 40 approximately two miles west of U.S. 59. The car traveled left of center and struck a 2019 Kia Forte driven by Michael T. Dieker, 41, Kansas City, Missouri, head-on.
Dieker was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Forensic Medical of Kansas. EMS transported Munoz Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Munoz was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
The South Lawrence Trafficway was closed between West 27th Street and Iowa Street until early Saturday morning to allow first responders to work the scene of the crash, according to the Douglas County Sheriff.
