HARVEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a homicide and have identified the body found at Harvey County East Park, 14 N East Lake Road in Newton, on Sunday as 31-year-old Tyler Lee Ford of Hutchinson, according to a media release from the Harvey County Sheriff's office.

Ford's body was found by a passerby on Sunday in the Sunset Ridge area of East Park, west of North East Lake Road and north of Northeast 12th Street on the ground of a dried-out portion of the lake bed. Much of the lake is without standing water due to drought conditions.

Ford’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

Ford is believed to have died within the past week, and the body placed in the park within the past week. An autopsy by the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center determined Ford died of a gunshot wound. Ford had numerous previous convictions for burglary, theft and robbery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
