JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a fatal officer shooting in Johnson County, Missouri.
Just after 2a.m. Friday, Johnson County, Missouri Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported shooting near MO Highway 131 and U.S. Highway 50, according to a media release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A. First responders found a 17-year-old girl inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. The suspect fled th scene of foot before deputies arrived.
Just before 4a.m. a Lafayette County deputy, a Johnson County deputy and an officer with the Odessa Police Department responded to a report of two men walking near the intersections of U.S. 50 and NW 1601 Road, approximately 21 miles east of the Kansas City suburb of Lee's Summit.
Upon contact, one of the men matched the description of a suspect in the earlier shooting who had fled. The Lafayette County Deputy and Odessa Police officer pursued the suspect. During the foot pursuit, the Lafayette County Deputy fired his duty weapon. The 19-year-old suspect was struck during the encounter and later transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Johnson County Deputies are investigating the shooting involving the girl. The MSHP is in charge of the officer shooting investigation. Authorities have not released the name of the suspect who died or updated details on the condition of the injured girl.
