Monarchs sweep Ellinwood

ELLINWOOD – The TMP-Marian Monarchs 18U baseball team used a couple of five-run innings to lead them to a doubleheader sweep of Ellinwood Thursday. The Monarchs (13-8) scored five in the top of the seventh to take the opener 7-0. After giving up three in the first in the second game, TMP scored five in the third to take the lead for good and won 8-4.

Nick Herrman and Mason Robbins combined on a five-hit shutout in the opener. Herrman went five innings with two strikeouts and three walks and picked up the win. Robbins allowed one hit with two strikeouts and no walks over the final two innings. He then pitched a complete game in the second contest, allowing six hits while striking out eight with no walks.

Robbins had three of the Monarchs 11 hits and drove in two runs in the first game then added two hits and a couple of runs scored in game two. Mark Rack and Noah Gibson both had two hits games with Gibson driving in two runs in game one. Gibson had two more hits in the second game. Jace Wentling, Ethan Atherton and Zeke Haag all drove in two runs.

The Monarchs have won four of their last five games. They travel to Hoisington for a doubleheader next Thursday (July 9).
