KANSAS CITY — A jury on Friday convicted a Kansas City man for a fatal shooting that took place last year in the North Town Fork Creek neighborhood, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

D’Aires Gadson, 29, was found guilty of 2nd Degree Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. His sentencing is scheduled for June 5.

According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to East 55th Street and College Avenue on Oct. 3, 2024, on reports of a shooting. They located the victim lying in the street suffering from gunshot trauma and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Surveillance footage showed the defendant pull out a firearm and start shooting at the victim. The victim ran toward his truck as the defendant continued shooting at him. Witnesses say the defendant went through the victim’s pockets and drove away with the victim’s truck.

The defendant was convicted in 2018 for 2nd Degree Robbery and Armed Criminal Action and was prohibited from possessing firearms.

Chief Trial Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jamie Hunt and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kendall Robbins prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
