SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement investigating a Saturday homicide in Topeka have identified the victim as 29-year-old Chavis Collins, according to Topeka Police Lt. Ronnie Connell.
Just after 1:00 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a local hospital in reference to a victim, later identified as Collins, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. A short time later, Collins dies of his injuries. Police released no additional details.
This is the city’s 2nd homicide in two days. On Friday, police responded to a fatal shooting in the 2700 Block of SW Burnett Road.
First responders found three individuals who had life-threatening injuries. One was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel, and the other two were taken to a local area hospital.
