DOUGLAS COUNTY—Authorities are investigating a crash that occurred just after 1:30p.m. Thursday in the city of Lawrence.

A driverless semi rolled about 300 feet from 11th and Maine, through a 4-foot retaining wall, over a patio, between two houses, and came to rest against a home’s foundation, according to a social media report from the Lawrence Police Department.   Considering the journey, the crash caused little damage and there were no injuries.

The semi’s driver told police he put the cab and trailer brakes on before leaving it and, once he saw it moving, tried to catch up but didn't.

The trailer of the semi was empty. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical was on scene to extinguish a small fire. The truck came to rest between two houses in the 1000 block of Maine. One resident was home in the house that was not damaged.
