BUTLER COUNTY—A Kansas man died in an accident Thursday in Butler County.
Just after 10:30p.m., a sheriff's deputy responded to report of horses on SW 210th Street near SW Hopkins Switch Road east of Douglass, according to a media release from the Butler County Sheriff.
Dispatchers worked to notify potential horse owners in the area including 61-year-old John Sanford of rural Douglas.
Sanford and his wife went to the location, determined the horses did belong to them and began working to get them off the road.
A westbound vehicle struck Sanford. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Bright lights from another vehicle parked on the side of the road facing east may have contributed to the accident, according to the sheriff's office.
