KANSAS CITY—Investigators are working to determine the cause of fire at an apartment complex in Kansas City.

Just before 8a.m. Sunday, crews responded to a reported apartment fire at 16300 E. 48th Terrace in Kansas City, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

Crews reported smoke and fire showing from the three-story apartment on arrival.

KCFD received multiple reports of trapped occupants. Due to the cold temperatures and potential for multiple patients, the incident was upgraded to a first alarm fire with 6 additional ambulances ordered.

The ambulances were used as warming locations for displaced occupants. The fire was placed under control at 8:25 a.m., according to Hopkins.

Multiple occupants and multiple pets were assisted or rescued from the apartment building.

Red Cross was ordered for 16 adults and 7 children.  Occupants were moved to the complex club house while they wait for Red Cress
