Firefighter injured fighting house fire in 100-degree weather

JOHNSON COUNTY —One firefighter is recovering from injuries after a  house fire on one of the hottest days of the year.

Just before 8p.m. Monday, crews were dispatched to a fire at a home in the 20500 Block of South Ridgeview Road in Spring Hill, according to Johnson County Kansas Fire District #1.

Crews  at the fire station saw smoke  from the fire. The first arriving unit found fire and smoke showing from the backside of the home. There was one resident home at the time of the fire and was the individual who reported the blaze.

 The cause of the fire is still under investigation.Due to the hot temperatures outside, Johnson County MED-ACT’s Rehab Unit was dispatched to the incident to assist with keeping personnel from becoming fatigued due to the heat.  One firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A total of three adults were displaced due to the fire. The American Red Cross Kansas is assisting the family. There were no other injuries.
