ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement investigating a shooting that injured a girl at a home in Atchison have a suspect in custody.
Just after 11:45p.m. on Thursday police responded to the 1400 block Commercial in Atchison to investigate a shooting that had just occurred, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.
Multiple shots had been fired at a residence where four persons were on and near a porch. The gunfire struck a 12-year-old girl. EMS transported her to Amberwell Hospital and subsequently airlifted to a Kansas City hospital.
On Friday afternoon, police took a 20-year-old man into custody in Horton Kansas, according to Wilson. He is being held on a requested charge of attempted murder. Police did not release the suspect's name.
Atchison Police detectives continue to gather information and evidence in Atchison and Horton and the investigation will continue into the weekend. The 12 year-old-victim remains hospitalized in a Kansas City hospital, according to Wilson.
