LYON COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 12:30p.m. Wednesday in Emporia.
According to Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattas, a Toyota Camry was northbound on Mechanic Street. The driver failed to yield at the stop sign at 12th Avenue.
The car crossed 12th Avenue, left the roadway, traveled onto Emporia State University property and struck a tree. EMS transported the driver to Newman Regional Health where they were pronounced deceased. Police did not release the name of the driver.
