KC-area man shot his girlfriend who was locked in bathroom

KANSAS CITY —A judge on Friday sentenced a Kansas City-area man to 30 years in prison for the the fatal 2020 shooting of his girlfriend, Camry A. Alonzo, in her home, according Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Deon D. Sanders, 28, pleaded guilty earlier to charges of 2nd degree murder.

According to court records, the defendant showed up at East Patrol in Kansas City and told police officers he had shot his girlfriend at a residence in Independence.

Independence police entered that residence to check on the girlfriend and found her deceased in the bathroom. She had been fatally shot. A nearby resident said shots were heard about 6 a.m.  Tuesday morning. The defendant told police he had shot her that morning after coming home in the early morning.

He told police he found the front door open and the bathroom door locked. He called for the victim, then he fired shots into the  door, he stated. He broke a hole into the door, opened it and found the victim. He then took their child to another residence, he stated, then went to KCPD’s East Patrol to turn himself in.
