Indictment: Nurse stole controlled substances from Kan. hospital

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A federal grand jury in Kansas returned an indictment charging an Overland Park man on two counts of tampering with a consumer product, one count of possession of fentanyl by deception and subterfuge, and one count of possession of hydromorphone by deception and subterfuge, according to the United State's Attorney.

In March 2021, Alec Ramirez, 30, a registered nurse, is accused of removing vials of fentanyl and hydromorphone from an automated dispensing cabinet at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park and replacing the substances with an alternate liquid then returning the vials to the cabinet.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Food and Drug Administration – Office of Criminal Investigations are investigating the case.
