LEAVENWORTH—Federal officials are investigating the death of an inmate at a prison in Kansas.
Just before 10p.m. Sunday, 30-year-old inmate Christian Rivera-Carrion was found unresponsive at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Leavenworth, according to a statement from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Responding employees initiated life-saving measures. Emergency medical services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued. EMS transported Rivera-Carrion to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified.
No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured and at no time was the public in danger.
Rivera-Carrion was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas to an aggregate 87-month sentence for Illegal Reentry by a Previously Deported Alien after an Aggravated Felony Conviction and Illegal Alien Transportation for Private or Financial Gain.
He had been in custody at FCI Leavenworth since October 17, 2024.
