Patient stabbed KC firefighter paramedic during transport

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City firefighter paramedic was critically injured while transporting a patient to the hospital.

Just after 1a.m. Sunday, the Kansas City fire department was dispatched to North Oak and 152 on a routine medical call, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

While transporting the patient to the hospital, the patient stabbed the firefighter paramedic in the chest. The firefighter's partner immediately called a crew emergency and additional KCFD personnel along with KCPD were dispatched to the scene.

The firefighter was transported to North Kansas City Hospital in critical condition where they are receiving treatment for the injuries sustained and remains in critical condition, according to Hopkins.

The suspect/patient in this incident was apprehended by the Kansas City Police Department and is in custody. Police have released no additional details early Sunday.
