KANSAS CITY—Police are requesting the public’s assistance in the search for a homicide suspect. If anyone sees or has information on the whereabouts of Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, 22, of Independence, Mo., call 911 immediately. Sanchez-Munoz is wanted in a homicide and other shootings that occurred mainly along Interstate 70 in Kansas City on Tuesday evening, leading to a standoff at a house in Independence.
Between 6 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday officers were notified of a total of 4 reported shooting victims, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina.
Officers contacted victims at Interstate 670 and Wyoming; vehicle was traveling eastbound from Kansas. Officers contact another victim at Interstate 70 and Paseo; the vehicle was traveling eastbound. Police contacted another victim at Interstate 70 and Prospect; the vehicle was traveling eastbound. Officers also contacted a victim at Truman and Hardesty; the vehicle was traveling eastbound
All the victims indicated they were driving down the highway when one or more shots were fired into their vehicles. A total of four victims were contacted and transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Three are adults and one is a juvenile teen. The juvenile teen was listed in stable condition, 2 of the 3 adults had non-life threatening injures, and one adult had life threatening injuries.
Detectives are investigating to determine the exact location of each of the shootings and what led up to the shootings. Detective's do believe these 4 incidents occurred in close succession of one another, geographically from West to East, and are believed to be connected to one subject of interest.
Further; detectives believe these shootings are related to the fatal shooting/car crash previously detailed at Truman Road and Bennington at 6:30pm
Through investigation, Detectives identified a subject, identified as Sanches-Munoz, in connection with all 5 of these cases and he was located a short time after the shootings, in a house in Independence, Missouri which resulted in a standoff.
Early Wednesday, the scene was maintained by a combination of Independence Police and Blue Springs Police until the house was deemed by fire personnel safe to enter, the house was cleared by Blue Springs Police at approximately 8am before turning over the residence to Independence Police and did not locate the Sanchez-Munoz.
At 10a.m. Wednesday, Independence Police turned over the scene in the 700 block of Brookside to Kansas City Police Homicide Detectives to thoroughly process for evidence and continue the search for the suspect
. KCPD Detectives worked with Fire Department Personnel, as well as Missouri State Fire Marshalls to include K-9’s to thoroughly examine the burned house. As of this afternoon, a search of the property and house has yet to locate the suspect.
The vehicle believed to be involved in the shootings was located at the residence on Brookside, and is in police custody. Sanchez-Munoz has a warrant out of Wyandotte County Kansas for Aggravated Assault with a 100K bond. If anyone sees this subject, call 911 immediately.
