
RENO COUNTY — Items on floor furnace caused a Friday night fire at an apartment in Hutchinson.
Just before 10p.m. fire crews responded to 319 W. 9th Street in Hutchinson after report of a fire in a commercial apartment building, according to Battalion Chief Jeremy Unruh
Upon arrival, crews reported a working fire with heavy smoke showing from a 1st floor apartment in a multifamily 2 ½ story home.
Crews made a quick aggressive attack containing the fire to one room. Smoke and heat damage were noted in the adjacent rooms. The two occupants of the affected apartment were not home at the time of the fire. One other apartment was occupied and that individual escaped without injury.
The cause of the fire was the result of unattended items left on a floor furnace grate. Crews were on scene for 2 hours to complete overhaul and investigation. Authorities did not release a damage estimate.
