Two accused of using explosive to start Kansas house fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas house fire and have made arrests.

Just after 10:30a.m. Monday, fire crews responded to a reported house fire at 631 SE 35th Street in Topeka, according to fire department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire in the single-story home. Fire crews searched the house, and determined no one was home at the time of the fire.

Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and two individuals were arrested 

Shaliqua A. Hill, 28, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Arson and Criminal use of explosives..A 17-year-old girl was also arrested and booked on requested charges of Arson, Criminal use of explosives, Criminal threat and Criminal damage to property.

The origin of the fire was on the exterior of the house near a bedroom window. The total estimated loss was approximately $3,000, all attributed to structural loss.
