70-year-old Kan. man accused of meth distribution

BARTON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating three Kansas men for alleged drug distribution.

Just before 6p.m. Tuesday, police and Barton County Sheriff’s Deputies executed a narcotic search warrant at 214 West 1st Street in Ellinwood, according to a media release.

Officers located a substantial amount of suspected methamphetamine along with packing materials and distribution paraphernalia.

Officers arrested the homeowner 57-year-old Eugene Patrick Merica and 70-year-old roommate Stewart William Clay.

A third suspect 42-year-old Steven Brian Merica was not home at the time of the search and was later arrested at a residence in Ellinwood.

All three suspects were transported to Barton County Jail, where they were booked on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana, and no drug tax stamp in lieu of 300,000-dollar bond.
