Kansas man jailed after roommate fight over care for a puppy

SALINE COUNTY —Two men were hospitalized after an argument over a puppy turned violent in Salina.

On May 6, police responded to a home in the 700 block of N. 8th Street in. Salina, according to Salina Police Captain James Feldman.

A 34-year old man reported that he and his roommate identified as 33-year-old Jeramy Hassler, got into an argument over the care of puppy.

The 34-year old told police the argument became violent, when Hassler took him to the ground and started to impede his breathing by applying pressure to his neck. The man was able to grab a nearby rubber mallet and used it to strike Hassler in the head, which allowed to escape.

Afterwards, the 34-year old man called police and upon arrival both men were transported to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of minor injuries. 

Further investigation determined that Hassler would be booked into the Saline County Jail on a requested charge of Aggravated Domestic Battery.
