SEDGWICK COUNTY— Another earthquake woke many in Wichita Wednesday morning. The quake at 5:04a.m. measured a magnitude 3.8, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and was centered in Eastborough south of 13th and Rock Road.
This follows a 2.7 magnitude quake at 4:19a.m. Monday in the same area, according to the Kansas Geological Survey. The agency reported more than a dozen small quakes in Sedgwick County since Thanksgiving Day.
Wednesday's 3.8 magnitude quake is the largest on record in the city in the last five years, according to the USGS and is considered relatively small. The USGS reported a 3.7 magnitude quake in Wichita on December 19.
Based on an investigation, the Kansas Corporation Commission reported last week that their staff does not believe the seismicity in Wichita is tied to any oil and gas activities in the area.
There are no reports of damage or injury from the series of quakes.
