SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged assault.

Just after 3:30a.m. Thursday, the Shawnee County Emergency Communication Center (Dispatch) received information about two individuals wearing dark clothing walking on Interstate 70, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Deputies with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office arrived in the area near SW Valencia Road and located two individuals.  During the investigation, one individual later identified as 47-year-old Eric J. Amundsen, of St. Louis, struck a deputy with his fist.  Deputies quickly placed him into custody. Amundsen was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of battery against a law enforcement officer, interference with law enforcement and disobeying official traffic-control devices.

The other individual, a 17-year-old boy was transported to the Kansas Children’s Service League, according to Christian.
