
SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man who admitted killing a Kansas woman in front of her two children will learn his fate on Thursday.
Edward A. Millan-Volcan, 26, of Wichita, is scheduled for a sentencing hearing in the courtroom of Judge Kevin Smith.
In June Millan-Volcan pleaded guilty to first degree felony murder and attempted first degree murder in connection with the July 17, 2025, murder of Sinay, Y. Leon-Montoya and attempted murder of Germany Torres Figueroa, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
On July 17, 2025, a female victim later identified as Sinay Leon-Montoya called 911 from the 6300 block of West Kellogg to report a domestic disturbance, according to a statement from Wichita Police. But due to a language barrier, communication was difficult. After the call, Sinay returned to her home at Spring Ridge Village Apartments. Upon her return, Millan-Volcan attacked her in front of her two children, according to police.
Leon-Montoya was stabbed multiple times and died at a local hospital. A second woman,Germany Torres Figueroa, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
