SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man accused in the child abuse death of his son will be back in court Friday afternoon.
Judge Kevin Smith will determine whether there is enough evidence for 33-year-old Devin Bemis to stand trial for firs-degree murder, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
On January 26, Bemis was arrested on child abuse allegations and he was later charged with first-degree murder when the child died in April. Bemis also is charged with three counts of violation of protection order and two counts of abuse of a child, according to online jail records.
Bemis allegedly abused his 5-month-old son and another child under the age of six, according to court documents. The 5-month-old died in April.
Bemis is being held on bonds totaling $400,000, according to online jail records.
