SALINA —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man in connection with alleged fraud and forgery
An independent contractor identified as William Tarpein, 42, Salina, who was working on jobs for Kape Roofing and Exteriors Inc., 315 West Pacific Avenue in Salina, according to Police Captain Paul Forrester.
He visited potential job sites, gave estimates, purchased materials and arranged the work to be done. He also took payments from customers, but he would not provide those payments to Kape, according to Forrester. Tarpein is also alleged to have passed fictitious checks at local banks.
Total loss in the case as of now is in excess of $70,000, according to Forrester.
Police arrested Tarpein was arrested on requested charges that include forgery, theft by deception, theft and and giving worthless checks.
