
SEDGWICK COUNTY — Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred the downtown Wichita.
Just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, 911 dispatchers received multiple calls about a stabbing near Third and Topeka in Wichita, according to a media release. Officers responded and found a 55-year-old man with a stab wound.

An officer provided immediate first aid before Sedgwick County EMS arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The man had an out-of-state ID and appears to be homeless.
During the initial investigation, officers learned about an earlier disturbance at another location. Detectives are working to determine if that incident is connected.
Police arrested a person of interest identified according to county arrest records as 42-year-old Raheem Semaj Smith. Preliminary information indicates the stabbing stemmed from an altercation between the victim and the suspect. Smith is being held on requested charges of second degree intentional murder and theft of property or services, according to online jail records.
