Kan. officer hospitalized after attempt to de-escalate fight

DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an incident that injured a police office who repeatedly punched in the head by a suspect during a disturbance at the Treatment and Recovery Center, 1000 W. 2nd Street in Lawrence, according to a media release.

The officer was attempting to intervene in the disturbance when the suspect began fighting the officer.

The officer was able to gain control over the subject with a taser and another officer arrived to assist in placing the subject into custody.

The suspect was checked at the hospital for the taser exposure then transported to the Douglas County Correctional Facility. The officer suffered injuries that will keep him home for a short time, according to the release.
