KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement investigating the fatal street racing crash on Monday in Kansas City have identified the victims as 91-year-old Verne Zugenbuhler and 72-year-old Diane Zugenbuhler, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.
Just before 10:30a.m. Monday, a black Chrysler 300 and a silver Dodge Charger were street racing southbound on Wornall from 99th Street at a high rate of speed, according to Sgt. DiMartino.
At the same time, a silver Honda HRV was making a left turn onto Carondolet from Wornall.
The Chrysler struck the Honda. The driver and passenger, Diane Zugenbuhler and Vern Zugenbuhler, in the Honda were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chrysler was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. This was fatality # 96 and #97 for 2024 compared to #101 in 2023 according to DiMartino.
