HAYS - The TMP-Marian Monarchs overcame a slow start Friday night at Lewis Field and beat the Russell Broncos 34-6.

Russell jumped out to an early 6-0 lead as they scored on their opening possession on a Jesse Whitmer 10-year touchdown run that capped off a six-play 47-yard drive.

The Monarchs offense was held in check for the majority of the first half until midway through the second quarter when Bryce Seib broke free for a 32 yard run setting up a Kade Harris 1-yard touchdown run. TMP took their first lead of the game with the extra point that made it 7-6.

In the second half the Monarchs scored a touchdown on four of their first five drivers as they built a 34-6 lead.

Harris added a second rushing touchdown and threw for two second half touchdowns. One went for 19 yards to Lance Lang and the second was a 95 yard pass to Mark Rack.

After recording just 13 total yards in the first quarter TMP racked up 254 yards in the final three quarter of the game.

Game highlights

TMP quarterback Kade Harris finished 8-18 passing for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Mark Rack had two receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown.

TMP improved to 1-1 on the season while Russell dropped to 0-2.

The Monarchs travel to Plainville next Friday night.
