TOPEKA — Text messages being sent to Kansas voters may be misleading, if those people wait until election day to vote. On Monday, the Kansas Secretary of State's office warned of misinformation sent in text messages to voters.
According to a screenshot of text message provided to Democratic Rep. Jason Probst that he forwarded to Hutch Post, the messages appear to direct voters to the Reno County Annex, which is the correct site for advance voting this week. But for most Hutchinson voters, that is not where they would vote if they wait until election day Nov 8.
"We encourage voters to be on high alert for these messages," said Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab. "The secretary of State's office does not not use third parties to contact voters or share election information. State and local officials are the trusted source for election information. We encourage voters to confirm their polling place and preview the ballot before going to vote."
If you need to double check where you vote, you can do that at the Kansas Secretary of State's VoterView site or you may call 785-296-4561.
