KANSAS CITY—One person died in an accident just before 3a.m. Sunday in Kansas City, Missouri.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a white Kia Optima was eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 670 while crossing all lanes of travel. A westbound black Chevrolet Avalanche struck the Kia.
EMS transported three passengers in the Kia to local hospitals. One was pronounced deceased. Two others were listed in critical condition. Both drivers were not injured. The investigation does include suspected impairment of both drivers, according to Gonzalez.
All lanes of westbound I-670 were closed to traffic in the downtown loop for approximately 4 hours.
This is fatality #29 compared to #24 at this time last year, according to Gonzalez.
