
SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man found guilty of charges in a fatal hit-and-run that killed 43-year-old bicyclist Thomas Doyle learn his fate on Tuesday.
Judge Quentin Pittman sentenced 23-year-old Christopher Johnson to 19 months in prison for failure to stop at an accident resulting in death and an additional six months in jail for driving under the influence, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
In June, Johnson plead not guilty to a charge of felony hit-and-run, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. In September, he entered a no contest plea to avod a jury trial, according to the district attorney's office.
In August of 2024, police responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and an electric bicycle at 2400 N. Hoover in Wichita, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.
First responders found 43-year-old Thomas Doyle of Wichita who was riding the bike unresponsive. Doyle was later pronounced deceased at the scene by Sedgwick County EMS.
Investigators determined Doyle was northbound on Hoover Street when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Johnson who then continued driving north.
On August 22, police arrested Johnson. He bonded out of jail the following day.
