SHAWNEE COUNTY —A second person has died from injuries in an accident that occurred just before 11:30a.m. October 23, in Shawnee County.
According to Shawnee County Deputy Abigail Christian, a trash truck was northbound on SW Auburn Road when a westbound white SUV driven by Carol M. Purcell, 77, Paxico, pulled onto the roadway. The trash truck and the SUV collided.
Purcell and a passenger of the SUV, identified as Richard W. Purcell, 80, also of Paxico, were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Carol Purcell later died. On Monday, the sheriff's office reported Richard Purcell also died of his injuries.
The driver of the trash truck sustained minor injuries.
SW Auburn Road was temporarily closed at SW 21st Street during the investigation.
