SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal stabbing and have one suspect in custody.

Just after 3 a.m. Sunday police responded to a stabbing call at a home in the 2300 block of South Pinecrest in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Upon arrival, officers located 34-year-old Ryan Speight of Wichita with a stab wound to the chest.  He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Police also contacted 57-year-old David Staley at the scene.

The investigation revealed a party occurred at the home. After party attendees had left, an argument ensured between Staley and his nephew Speight, who both live at the home.

During the argument, Staley stabbed Speight, causing his fatal injuries, according to Davidson.

Police arrested Staley without incident. He is being held on a requested charge of 2nd-degree murder, according to online jail records.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office.
