SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect who took a joy ride in a police vehicle.
Just before 1:30 a.m., Sunday, a citizen at the Quik Trip at Murdock and Broadway in Wichita contacted police, according to Officer Trevor Macy.
While the officer was at the scene with reporting party, 24-year-old Alex Flores entered the patrol vehicle and drove to the 1000 block of South Topeka, where the patrol struck a parked vehicle causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
Police located Flores at the scene and took him into custody without incident. He remains jailed on requested charges of auto theft, hit and run, drive under the influence, drive with a suspended driver's license and an active warrant.
Police are also investigating the officers' actions.
