KANSAS CITY —A suspect faces multiple charges in connection with a murder.
Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson charged 62-year-old William Morrison of Sugar Creek with 1st Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action for allegedly shooting a man and then pouring concrete over his body to conceal it.
According to court records, Independence police received a missing person’s report on May 13. The man was last seen on May 10, riding in the passenger seat of an older white sedan. He had reportedly gone with the defendant to do concrete work in the basement of a property the defendant owns.
Surveillance footage showed a white sedan arriving at the property on May 10 and leaving early the next morning. On May 23, cadaver canines independently alerted to the odor of human remains in the basement, near a freshly poured concrete slab and dirt pile. Investigators excavated the slab and recovered the body of a man with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was later identified as the missing person.
Detectives also found the victim’s wallet inside the defendant’s residence.
Morrison is being held without bond.
