
BUTLER COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a weekend shooting have made an arrest.
Just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Butler County Deputies were dispatched to the scene of a shooting at a large party in the 6200 block of SW Church Road, Augusta, Kansas, according to Undersheriff Daimon Cundiff.
Upon arrival, Deputies located a 17-year-old boy from Winfield with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to witnesses, there was an altercation between the 17-year-old victim and 18-year-old Jacob Anton DeLeon, of Haysville, when he was shot.
Later that morning, Butler County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested DeLeon in connection with the shooting. He has since been charged with Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He is currently being held on a $200,000.00 bond at the Butler County Jail.
