Police ID victims in Kansas double-homicide, make arrest

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement  investigating a double homicide in Topeka have identified the victims as 75-year-old Larry Smutney and 74-year-old Warren Eteeyan, according to Topeka Assistant Police Chief Jennifer Cxross.

Just before 7p.m. on Thursday, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of N. Kansas Avenue, in the popular NOTO Arts District in Topeka, according to Cross.

First responders located one male victim who was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second male victim was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries.  Police have not confirmed which victim died at the scene.

A local business provided police with photos of a person of interest and later Friday morning confirmed they had located the suspect.

On Friday afternoon, police booked 21-year-old Kristen Knight Wahquahboshkuk, 21, of Mayetta Kansas was booked  into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges that include two counts of Murder in the 1st Degree. The Topeka Police Department thanked those who provided information that helped lead to the swift apprehension of the suspect.
