
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect caught during an alleged crime.
Just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, a police officer was patrolling the area of SW 12th Street and SW Fairlawn Avenue in Topeka when he observed a man underneath a bus that was parked at the First Lutheran Church, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.
The suspect later identified as 39-year-old Kenneth E. Guenther appeared to be cutting a catalytic converter from the vehicle.
The officer attempted to make contact with the suspect, who fled on foot. Police located Guenther a short time later and took him into custody. He is being held on requested charges that include Theft > $1,500 < $25,000 All Other Criminal damage to property; Felony Flee or attempt to elude; Commission of any felony and Flee or attempt to elude; police road block.
